The Ultimate Wash Day Guide for Long-Lasting, Defined Curls

Wash Day Essentials for Curly Hair Extensions

When it comes to washing your curly hair extensions, there are a few essentials that will make the process easier and give you the best results.

  • Lukewarm Water – ensures hair does not become dry when washing.
  • Moisturizing Conditioner – a sulfate-free conditioner adds moisturize to the hair.
  • Wide Tooth Comb or Denman Brush – detangles while keeping curl pattern intact.
  • Microfiber Towel – highly absorbent towel dries hair and is lint free.

Step-by-Step Wash Day Guide for Curly Hair Extensions

Step 1: Soak the hair extensions

Soak the curly hair extensions in lukewarm water for 5-10 minutes. This opens up the hair follicles and releases product buildup.

Step 2: Coat the hair in conditioner

Apply a liberal amount of conditioner to the extensions, making sure every strand of hair is coated.

Step 3: Detangle the hair

Take your wide tooth comb or Denman brush and brush though the hair. This detangles the hair while preserving your curl pattern.

Step 4: Wait 30 minutes

After the hair is detangled, let the conditioner sit on the hair for 30 minutes. This is going to make the hair soft and moisturized. For added hydration, add a plastic shower cap to lock in heat and boost moisture production.

Step 5: Rinse out the conditioner

Use lukewarm water to rise the conditioner out of hair. Rinse from roots to ends and be sure to wash all of the product out of the hair. Use a comb Denman brush to detangle while you wash if necessary.

Step 6: Squeeze water out of hair

Remove water from hair by scrunching, essentially taking a handful of hair and squeezing it upward toward the roots. This helps the curls regain their pattern. Avoid rubbing the hair which can cause frizz.

Step 7: Let hair air dry

Allow hair to air dry to preserve curl pattern. Avoid using a blow dryer which may alter the curl pattern and put excess heat on hair.

Step 8: The final look

Once your hair is dry, it should look healthy with defined curls. For a more voluminous look, separate curls with your fingers. Add a small amount of oil to the hair for shine.

Give Yourself TLC

The time you spend with your hair is also time that is spent on you. Make the effort to spend time doing the things that make you look and feel good. When you take care of your curly hair extensions, they will take care of you.
